Abstract

The article deals with the key principles of the use of literary education (in particular, the teaching of Ukrainian literature) for forming humanistic principles and ideals in the students’ youth outlook. The main features of the implementation of education for peace at the lessons of Ukrainian literature are outlined in view of the present social situation and historical background of the upgrading literary education in the conditions of development of post former Soviet and modern digital society. Literary education is regarded as a powerful carrier of the identity of the nation, its genetic code, a means of forming a humane personality oriented towards living in a peaceful society. Ukrainian literature has to perform aesthetic, cognitive and educational functions. The lessons of Ukrainian literature in a democratic and renovated state should form optimistic, creative mood of the new generation, high features of nobility and humanism. Literature is one of the most accessible types of culture and art for contemporary youth, and, therefore, the teachers of literature have almost the greatest opportunity to influence the formation of the spiritual world of each individual, influence his or her emotional sphere, but also, accordingly, the formation of a system of values of the future generation. The student must get acquainted with the figures of prominent Ukrainian writers, personally perceive and comprehend a number of artistic works, understand and reckon the beauty of the literary word, conceive the essence of the spiritual values laid down in the basis of read texts. A literary work should be studied not to pay tribute to the past, but to a greater extent, so that students can understand where we are from, who we are and what we live for, to enrich and expand our outlook, by affirming all the most valuable things that are in our history and culture. The lessons of Ukrainian literature should become the basis of the patriotic education of students, their social formation, high morals and the desire to live in a peaceful society.
