Abstract

The article highlights the purpose, tasks, priorities and the main directions of modern scientific and information activities of the V. O. Sukhomlinsky State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine. The appointment of SSPL as a powerful scientific institution on issues of branch librarianship, bibliography, bibliography, information activities, pedagogical source studies, biography and history of education are revealed, national branch book store, center for library and information provision of education; the main coordinating, scientific and methodological center of the network of educational libraries of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The peculiarities of the work of the institution, which, on the basis of system interaction and coordination of activities with other educational libraries, are provided by scientific, scientific and pedagogical institutions, educational establishments, scientific and pedagogical workers, managers in the field of education, teachers, preschool and out-ofschool educational institutions, pupils, students of higher educational establishments, educators, as well as specialists in related fields. The main achievements of the library are considered and the strategy of its further development for achieving qualitative changes is outlined. It is stressed that the activity of SSPL is aimed at improving the library and information support of education through the formation of a new socio-cultural image of the library, which is capable of satisfying modern needs of users, has powerful databases, provides free and unrestricted access to world information networks and data banks on the basis of widespread use of the newest information and communication technologies, orientation on the integration of internal and external information resources for the promotion of information and intellectualization of society.
