Abstract

Psychological components of civic competence, in particular, focus on promoting common good, sense of involvement, focus on cooperation, the ability to interact constructively, civic responsibility, are considered in light of social interest concept. Key groups of competencies in the structure of civic competence are defined. They are: cognitive competencies, ethical competencies and value choice (motivational-value aspect of civic competence), social competencies (ability to interact based on the principles of democratic law), reflexive competencies. The list of indicators of social interest proposed by H. Kaplan has been clarified. Indicators of cognitive, emotional-regulatory, communicative-behavioral, motivational-value components of social interest have been determined. It is noted that social interest to a certain extent influences the worldview of a person and determines the tendency to choose strategies of civic interaction, influences structuring of the picture of the world of a person and his or her positioning in it. The results of the analysis of several empirical studies of different aspects of civic competence through the prism of the concept of social interest are presented. Adolescents and young people who are characterized by higher levels of such manifestations of social interest as the ability to empathize with others, emotional self-regulation skills, prosocial moral reasoning, are more prone to civic engagement, and also assess their own civic skills higher, which is a sign of higher self-efficacy. and is a prerequisite for developing civic competence. The types of communication practices defided by S. Poznyak are analyzed in terms of manifestation of social interest. Participative communicative practices are defined as indicators of hilghly developed social interest. Development of social interest has been identified as one of the factors determining civic responsibility motivation and subjectivity. The perspectives of promoting social interest of youth in the context of civic education are outlined.
