Abstract
The article reveals the role of the textbook as a universal teaching tool. The whole complex of learning tools is being developed and improved, which changes the function of the textbook, which is already considered as an element of a holistic system of learning tools. The presence of educational- methodological kit defines the role of the textbook as a system-forming kernel, a kind of metasystem, gives it a new purpose — to become a link between all components of the complex, to ensure their integrity and functionality of unified approaches to the implementation of the principles of competence-based approach. The criteria for selection of educational material according to certain criteria - scientific, systematic and frequency of consideration; the degree of necessity, relevance and availability in a given age range; harmonization of content, structure, scope with the objectives of the school subject; time allots for studying.
