Abstract
The question of assessing the degree of conformity of students' intellectual abilities to the marks they receive at school is considered. The pilot study was conducted on the example of 10th grade of the physical and mathematical lyceum’s students, who were largely pre-selected for such a profile and could be considered as a relatively homogeneous sample. It was proved that the correlation between intelligence indicators and grades in mathematics-fiction cycle subjects was very low (r≤0,2). It has been shown that the existing system of academic performance’s assessment was not justified for assessing the academic competence of high school students because of its subjective nature.
