Abstract
The necessity of taking into account the ideas of personally oriented and competency-based approaches in creating of a modern reading textbook for elementary school in the context of the tasks of the New Ukrainian School is substantiated in the presentation. The purpose and tasks of the content lines of the linguistic and literary field of elementary education are outlined. The didactic and methodological possibilities of the reading textbook as a means of ensuring of the tasks of the content lines of the Model educational program, which are implemented through the subject «Reading», are disclosed. Guidelines for the work by the textbook «Ukrainian language and reading. Part 2» in the second grade by O.V. Vashulenko are provided. The necessity of using the tasks in the modern reading textbook that encourage children to creativity on the basis of what they read and contribute to the development of research skills of the second-graders in reading lessons is substantiated.
