Abstract
Within the context of present-day realities of social, cultural and educational environment of Ukraine it is necessary to form children's national consciousness, the sense of patriotism for the country they live in. This is deemed to be one of the major tasks of educating children and the youth, inasmuch as it could provide fostering patriotic citizens of the country able to protect its independence and integrity. A range of ways of internalizing cultural experience could be singled out. However, it is being literary words that have significant impact on a small reader. By virtue of heroes, historical, ethnology, naturalistic and educational texts introduction into the culture of the nation comprising the representatives of various national minorities should occur. Today's modern school is instrumental in forming individuals able to take an active part in every sphere of socio-cultural life of the country. In the article the significance of selecting literary texts based upon national and socio-cultural principles for textbooks in literary reading for schools providing teaching in minority languages is elaborated. The analysis of the current textbooks in literary readings for schools for national minorities is accomplished.
