Abstract

It is difficult for an ordinary person to imagine the lives of those whose destiny deprived them of the opportunity to see and hear the world. Less than a century ago, the deaf-blind were almost officially equated with the mentally retarded. The unique methodology of the Ukrainian Ivan Sokoliansky who created the world's first system of training and education for deaf-blind children, which allowed them to receive education, study, learn foreign languages, write books and even draw. The Ukrainian writer Yuri Smolich spoke about Ivan Sokoliansky: “… The rescuer of tens and hundreds of the blind, the dumb and the deaf, the innovator who was able to teach the blind to distinguish colors, the deaf to know the gamut, the dumb to convey their thoughts”.
