Abstract
The paper focuses on the analysis of library publishing at higher education institutions (HEI) of engineering and teachers’ training type during 2013 – 2017. These libraries belong to the system of education libraries under the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. This system is led by V.O. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine. In Ukraine HEI library publishing is often discussed in professional periodicals, at conferences and seminars. The author has analysed publications produced during the last decade covering various aspects of university library publishing in Ukraine and the world. The main aim is to study 2013–2017 publishing activity at 35 libraries of teachers’ training universities, which are included to the system of education libraries under the MES of Ukraine and the NAES of Ukraine. The author of the paper has analysed their web-sites and publications available in the holdings of V.O. Sukhomlynskyi SSPL of Ukraine, and used the information given in the reference book Leading education libraries in space and time: monitoring their activity paying attention to the mention period. The analysis has shown that university library publishing is a diverse and many-sided activity, since such libraries function as informational, methodological, and educational centers. Many publications are electronic documents, and an e-document can exist either with or without a printed equivalent of the same publication. The following various publications are produced at university libraries: bibliographic, practical, reference, teaching, research, popular science, information, normative, instructive, advertising, serial, and review publications. They cover currant library practice, popularise information resources and library service, and further library integration into the overall cultural and information space of the country. In addition, librarians write papers for periodicals and serials. It was found out that the most popular product published at university libraries was bibliographic tools, half of which were biobibliographic ones. Research publications are mainly presented in the form of conference proceedings, information analysis documents, historical and regional research. It is mentioned that the most popular subject matter of guidelines was library information resources (formation and access to them).University library products also include reference books, digests, tables with significant and memorable dates, periodicals, serials, posters, booklets, guide books, prospectuses, programmes, invitation cards, and instructions for users.
