Abstract
The author analyzes scientific pedagogical literature on the problem of giftedness in the USA. The article focusess on general information about the study of the issue in the United States, the components of intellectual competence, as well as the factors contributing to the giftedness and problems that arise in teaching of gifted children. The emphasis is given to peculiarities of giftedness.
