Abstract
The article reveals topical issues of the functioning of geographical education in high school at the core level of education, since today geographic education is represented at the academic and core levels. Since the general purpose of the educational geographic course is to improve the representation of students of the lyceum on the geographical picture of the world, then when forming the subject competence, the language should be about establishing the notion of geography as a constructive science, and students should form geographic thinking on the principles of historical, spatial, complex, typological, problematic and constructive approaches. The decisive ideas of the educational program are humanitarian, social, ecological, economical aspects, involvement of students in socially useful activity by means of modern geography. For the further development of geographic education at the profile level of education in the high school, the scientists of the Geography and Economics Department of the Institute of Pedagogics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine created the Concept of Geographical Education for the profile school. The main idea of the concept of geographic education at the profile level of education in the lyceum is the likelihood of scientific knowledge to the world of human needs, that is, the acquisition of knowledge for the further chosen profession or activity that will be associated with the geographical component. The concept of studying geography in the profile school is a document for general-use and methodological use. It is the basis for the following joint actions of professionals in the development of the system of profile education, the content of school education, methods and techniques, methods and means of training, scientific and pedagogical research and teacher training. The author of the article, explaining the need for geographic knowledge of high school students through key competencies, including substantive ones, suggests methodological principles for the functioning of geographic education in high school through the content of the Geographical Education Concept, which is a framework document defining the main directions of school geography development in the context of studying how economic features their country and economic and geographical relations in the world.
