Abstract
The author of this article examines the means, which help to use the system of communicative actions in the conditions of competence-oriented teaching foreign languages to primary school students. The scientist expresses his own point of view on the question of competent approach to teaching foreign language communication, the essence of the concept of “a competent person” in the field of teaching for¬eign languages is characterized. He considers competence-oriented teaching foreign languages of primary school students as their ability according to age characteristics and potential opportunities consciously perform educational actions that ensure the mastery of foreign language communication in oral and written forms within the spheres, themes, situations and linguistic means defined by the current curriculum. The author defines and characterizes theoretical and methodical approaches to the construction and methods of implementing a system of exercises and tasks that provide competence-oriented teaching foreign languages to students of grades 1–4. According to the results of the analysis of trends in the de¬velopment of modern school secondary education and empirical research, the author determined and sub¬stantiated the content and functions of the foreign language communicative competence as a subject one and its components, for the formation of which the content of teaching foreign languages is directed. The educational actions that students must carry out in the process of mastering them are outlined and charac¬terized. The system of exercises and tasks that can provide the realization of educational actions aimed at the formation of the indicated competencies is defined and described. The article substantiates theoretical and methodical approaches to the selection of exercises and tasks that ensure the formation of foreign language competence of primary school students. Types, kinds, forms of realization, quantitative and qualitative composition of exercises and tasks are consistent with the objectives of education, outlined by the current curriculum, correspond to the current trends in the development of school foreign education, adapted to the age-old features and potential of students of junior school age and to the basic ideas of the concept of the “New Ukrainian School”.
