Digital communication space research in the education reform context

Abstract

It is presented the interim results of the study on the information space of news sites and the communicative space of Facebook in the context of educational reforms implementation. The collection of empirical material was taking place for six months, from April to September 2017. This period has been selected to show the dynamic of citizen’s fears and expectations about educational innovations six month before adoption of a new version of the Law of Ukraine “On Education”. During this period, 1559 posts and 2303 comments on relevant online sites was selected and analyzed. As a result of the monitoring, the 6 blocks on the online media messages orientation were singled out, namely: 1) clarification of the secondary education reform content and its potential benefits to society; 2) interim results of the secondary education reform; 3) financing the education reform; 4) criticism on the education reform; 5) priority of the education reform; 6) other. As a result of socio-demographic analysis of commentators, the most active participants in the process of education reform discussing were singled out: educators, parents, experts (scientific and pedagogical workers who comment and assess the reform process and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine actions from professional and status position), and active citizens (representatives of public sector, students, media and other spheres who actively participate in the discussion).The semantic analysis of comments allowed to reveal the main factors of resistance to reforms in each link of social system, and the subject of conflict discourse.
