Abstract

It is proved that the key direction of reforming the content of basic education in the world today is its transition to the competence basis, improvement of the quality of education at all its levels, emphasis on the value aspects of the development of social and individual-oriented skills necessary for learning throughout life. It is concluded that the adoption of state-level national education development strategies on a competent basis, which is currently successfully implemented by the majority of EU countries, is important for the successful transition of the content of basic secondary education to the competence base in Ukraine.
