Abstract
In the article the theoretical and methodological foundations of elective component of the curriculum as an important condition to meet the cognitive needs of students are revealed. We are focusing on the differentiated approach, which is aimed at achieving the objectives of individually oriented education. The essence of electives as a form of differentiation of instruction is analyzed.
