Abstract
The article deals with the problem of diagnostics and intellectual development dynamics of a linguistic personality of a student in the context of competencybased approach to education. Evaluation objects are the following: linguistic, communicative, sociocultural and general academic competencies. The evaluation criteria are levels of academic achievements, which are defined by the school curriculum for each form. According to the author, diagnostics is to be carried out as a psychological and educational monitoring. It is to be didactically adequate in time spectrum: types and forms of control should provide its prompt and non-overloading procedure. The author outlines the following criteria to specify diagnostics means: • As far as the contemporary educational paradigm suggests complex acquisition of linguistic skills and cultural peculiarities of a particular nation, the evaluation criteria should have complex nature as well and provide evaluation of educational achievements in the sphere of language, level of communicative skills and sociolultural competency. • Provide information on psychological condition of students throughout the process of completing tasks (i.e. mental load, neural excitation, stress levels). • Students are to be familiar with the types and forms of control which pose no difficulties for them. • Types of test tasks should have prognostic nature and provide opportunities to predict ways to neutralize shortfalls of educational process. The suggested ideas are illustrated by the author with samples from his Spanish language textbooks.
