Abstract
The article states that an important factor in the successful implementation of the idea of a competent approach to the study of biology is the modernization (updating) of the structure of school biological education, expected results of pupils' educational and cognitive activity, content, teaching methods and teacher training. Anxiety causes a decrease in the number of those who wish to choose natural sciences. This situation threatens the educational process not only in higher education institutions, but also the threat to the organization of educational process in general educational institutions of the country due to lack of appropriate specialists.
