Abstract
The purpose of this article is to substantiate religious studies competence through its connection with historical competence. We define religious studies competence as part of academical religious studies competence, which is formed on the basis of historical substantive competence, has identical basic components and is the starting point for further deepening the specification in this area of humanitarian knowledge. Thanks to the development of pupils' critical thinking skills, the ability to raise questions and seek answers to them about religion, ethics and the world order as a whole, the possibilities of deepening cultural and social-civic competencies greatly expand on the basic of development religious studies competence at school.
