Abstract

The article deals with the problems of modernizing the content of school history education of Ukraine on the basis of a new textbook "Ukrainian History " prepared for publication in 2015 (Publishing House "Education") for students of the 7th form of a secondary school (authors: N. Gupan, I. Smagin, O.Pometun). It is proved that this educational book has significant differences in a presentation of the content and differs from the previous educational books from national history by a qualitatively new methodical apparatus aimed at the implementation of personally oriented learning. The authors emphasize that the availability of innovative teaching and methodological support does not automatically produce the modernization of school historical education. The enhancement of its quality can only be realized if teachers are ready to implement progressive changes in their own teaching, which requires teachers to understand the essence of the proposed changes in modern school textbooks.
