Abstract
The article raises the problem of formation of pupils' scientific thinking, emphasizes the need for this process in elementary school, up to 12-14 years, while the fundamental structures of student thinking are formed; the conditions of formation of natural scientific competence in the primary and secondary schools, the image of nature as a condition for the formation of scientific thinking are considered.
