Abstract
In this article conceptual points and analysis of Ivan Ohiienko’s ideas concerning the native language and native language duties of the citizens are considered as well as their implementation in modern schools. Upholding the unity and conciliarity of the Ukrainian nation and state, the scholar emphasises the language values of the nation as the mentality of a Ukrainian reveals to the best advantage in the language. Upbringing and education of a child should be based on the native language. Staring from the birth, a child should find itself in the native language surroundings, namely, its parents are expected to speak their native language and have their own family library. Further on, such institutions as kindergartens and schools assume the obligations of performing the functions of a native language landmark. The pivot of the concept of the language education is mastering the conciliar literary language by every citizen.
