Abstract
Increasing the effectiveness of professional self-determination of the individual involves providing it with relevant psychological and pedagogical support, which is based on a certain conceptual basis. With all the diversity of approaches to determining the essence of the categories «professional self-determination» and «professional career», both theories are guided primarily by the self-concept of personality. Professional self-determination is considered to be a selective attitude of a person not only to a particular profession, but to the world of professions in general, it is relevant to the individual throughout the entire period of her professional development. The category of "professional careers" in Ukrainian pedagogy and psychology is at the stage of conceptual formation and is defined as a way to achieve goals and results in the basic form of personal self-expression, as the result of a person's professional activity and the social status he gained, as an individual's work path, expressed in professional and official form. In this context, this category is broader in alignment with the category of «professional self-determination» and in its semantic content rather corresponds to the category «life self-determination».
