Abstract
The article highlights some topical issues of the early 21st Century in the area of giftedness. These issues concern the identification and development of the general and special abilities of the younger generation. The author describes approaches to the diagnosis of children’s giftedness used in the educational systems of the countries of Europe and South West Asia with various levels of economic development. An interdisciplinary approach to the globalization challenges, taking into account the education and development of gifted and talented, allows accurately predicting the expression of creative abilities, solving ethical issues and preserving the cultural heritage in the process of mastering by young people of the skills needed in the 21st Сentury. One of the main goals of the modern educational system should be the methodic and systematic diagnosis of children of all ages with the aim of identifying and developing their potential abilities. At the present stage, there is a demand for the skilled staff able to make such decisions. The preparation of young people to life in a dynamic society involves a qualitative identification of the interests and abilities of children at an early age, which ensures their effective development. The article gives the examples of diagnostic techniques used in the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Turkey and highlights the key components, criteria and methods for the identification of gifted and talented in the abovementioned countries. It also outlines the ways to support gifted students in the process of their development.
