Abstract
The manual highlights the problem of finding new ways to identify content and methods of teaching Ukrainian literature in primary school, which would ensure the development of student's personality. The formation of students reading culture, literary competence, humanistic world outlook, aesthetic tastes and value orientations. The contents of the manual reveals one aspect of learning - competent approach. With the use of concrete examples the essence is determined, theoretical concepts show the difference between competencies and competences, habits in school practice, knowledge and skills. The author's teaching methods are based on interactive technologies, taking into account the subject experience of students, providing the ability to select tasks by the level of complexity and their independent implementation.
