Abstract
This article examines the problem of history teaching children with mental retardation in Ukraine in the 50 – 60 years of the twentieth century. The analysis of history textbooks that were used in special schools in the aforementioned period. The content of the course of history of the USSR for mentally retarded children mid-twentieth century. Deals with methods of forming historical knowledge in mentally retarded children. We describe the most popular forms of extra-curricular study of the history of mentally retarded children. Studied the views of scientists defectology this period to improve the quality of learning mentally retarded children in history lessons. Stated that the Ukrainian children of the schools studied most vivid historical episodes devoted to the life of people in Russia the capitalist era, the events of 1917 in Petrograd and coming to power Bolsheviks, the Soviet period of national history. It is noted that only two episodes course of Soviet history were devoted to Ukraine’s past: Pereiaslav Council and the battle the Russian army with Swedish army in Poltava 1709. Found that in the 50-60-ies course «History of the USSR» taught 7-8 class in special school.
