Abstract

This thesis implements the theoretical analysis of researches in problems of psychological health and social capital of the person in conditions of social and economic inequality. The concepts of «mental health», «psychological health» are defined. The main interdisciplinary approaches of the social capital researches are analyzed. The conceptual field of social capital and psychological health is defined in terms of the author’s research. The social capital psychological structure and the main components are highlighted. The theoretical and methodological basis, empirical research methodical instruments of social capital as a factor of psychological health of the persons with low economic status are substantiated. The peculiarities of the state of psychological health and the development of social capital constituents depending on the level of economic well-being of a person were revealed. The social capital spheres, components connection particularity and psychological health components of the persons with low economic status are defined. Social frustration of people with low economic status is different from that of well-to-do people. Subjective economic well-being, economic optimism, the state of positive relationship with others, autonomy, self-acceptance and psychological well-being of persons with low economic status reach predominantly medium and low levels, but financial deprivation, financial stress are more apparent. Social frustration of social and economic status is in the most significant inverse relation with positive relationship with others and self-acceptance being of disadvantaged people. Relationship social frustration in social capital private sphere is also in the most significant inverse relation with subjective economic well-being. Recreation resource of private sphere of social capital, public sphere of social capital and its socio-professional resource are much less used by hard-up people. Described differences among proposed target groups with low or high income levels catch personal and social mental traits that significantly and mostly negatively affect mental health of financially unstable individuals. Among the values for those with low economic status a dominating one is conformity as a motivational purpose of support searching in the medium and expressing quite a passive position, instead, needy indicate the need for security, encroachment on prosociality circulating at the macro level; differentiation of manifestation of their value priorities indicates impressively lower manifestation of stimulation and independence contrasting the persons with high economic status. Manifestation of tolerance as a feature of personality is on a lower level than among those with high economic status; the "co-convention" is not typical with the availability of the social capital resources specifically among people with low economic status, and it is not a prerequisite for these individuals to purchase and activation of social capital, which is a characteristic of wealthy people. The character of the influence of social capital spheres and constituents on psychological health markers is shown. The model of the influence of social capital on the psychological health of such persons was constructed, according to which: individual values influence the inclusion into the interaction with others; trust accomplishes the function of maintaining inclusion, and provides the actualization of social capital as a whole; the actualization of trust and certain types of values is a factor of maintaining psychological health; accessibility to the resources of a social network, together with the actualization of values and trust, defines the probability and the orientation of the direction of psychological health. The thesis provides a view on the possibilities of social capital activation for persons with low economic status as to maintaining their psychological health in conditions of other resources deficiency. Social-psychological vector of implementing positive psychotherapy, as a resource-oriented method, into the programme, aimed at creating the conditions for maintaining psychological health of people with low economic status by means of social capital resources activation is substantiated. Two variants of activation programmes based on authorial model of social capital as a factor of maintaining psychological health of persons with low economic status, developed in the course of preliminary empirical investigation, is suggested. Successful approbation of results of social capital activation programmes taking into consideration their accessibility to the resources of private and public spheres, that revealed itself in the markers of personal growth, positive relationships with others, environment management, life goals, psychological well-being, autonomy are presented.
