Abstract
This article discusses the development of communication skills in hearing-impaired children. We’ve analyzed latest global tendencies of the evolution of educational systems, such as humanization, transition from institutionalization to inclusion, flexibility of teaching modes and methods, providing the education for both younger and older children, interstructural and intersectoral cooperation while providing assistance for children with special needs (including the hearing-impaired children), transition to the principles of competence. We’ve named the latest tendencies of providing help for hearing-impaired children, such as neonatal screening procedures that could reveal hearing disorders, early intervention programs, flexibility of teaching modes and methods, etc. This article discusses the multidimensionality of ways in which the development of communication skills in hearing-impaired children and children with diminished hearing may be affected, including the influence of external factors. We have listed the factors that are particularly important for speech development in hearing-impaired children, these are diagnostic, consultative, medical, rehabilitation, social, pedagogical, teaching. We have determined certain reference points, according to which the system of providing help to hearing-impaired children in Ukraine could be improved: providing favourable conditions, introduction of flexible teaching approaches, implementation of the competence paradigm.
