Abstract
While individualizing Ukrainian secondary school education, a little studied aspect is revealed by the Ukrainian psychologists in the second half of the 2Cth century, the contribution to its development. The main directions, methods and results of their research in the field of pedagogical psychology, psychology of personality, social psychology aimed at individualizing education are outlined (studying of memory, individual differences in mental activity, students’ creativity, their interests and skills, considering aims of studying, identifying and developing giftedness and creative thinking, introducing differentiated classes in the primary school, running psychological services in the secondary schools). The analysis of Ukrainian scientists’ psychological and pedagogical works stated their research spectrum expansion in the direction of ensuring schoolchildren’s individual needs and interests. This proves the gradual formation of a basis for establishing the paradigm of personally oriented education , especially in the 1980s, which became one of the most important directions of the educational policy of independent Ukraine in the 1990s.
