Abstract

This chapter analyzes the research results that relate to the characteristics of the nega­tive states of psychologists / psychotherapists who work with traumatized servicemen,and the factors that aggravate these states and their progress. The theoretical part of the chapter discusses the basic concepts of the study that include secondary traumatic stress, burnout and alexithymia as well as the existing approaches to these phenomena. The experimental part analyzes the results concerning the specific characteristics of Ukrainian psychologists’ / psychotherapists’ emotional states that may develop when they work with traumatized servicemen, and the relationship between these states with psychologists’ / psychotherapists’ personal traumatic history, personal experience of trauma coping and supervisory support, etc.
