Abstract
In the article, decoration activity is considered, which possesses a significant training and educational potential, offering possibilities for the development of the child's emotional and aesthetic spheres, artistic creativity and personal qualities. The decoration activity lessons aim to stimulate the preschool children to notice beauty in the surrounding world and to master the decoration techniques for adorning various things and objects of interior. This lays emphasize on the pragmatic character of the decorative art, its orientation to the creation of socially valuable products. To master the decoration activity, one needs pedagogical guidance from the early age. For this reason, the author describes the meaning and methods of work on decorative activity at the early and preschool ages with the use of illustrative and didactic materials contained in the author's albums series "Wonderworks" and "Little Artist" devoted to the artistic creation. As the decoration activity is conditioned by the achieved level in others kinds of figurative activity - painting, modelling, applique work, the pedagogue has to solve a number of complex problems on each stage of the preschool childhood. The characteristic features of decorative activity on its different stages have been distinguished. At an early age, which corresponds to pre-depictive stage, in modelling, applique or painting the making of the simplest decorative elements, basic decoration of things plays the lead; at the age of 3 to 5 years children learn to compose simple ornaments in order to decorate clothes, things and toys in their paintings; the elder preschoolers engage themselves with complex multi-element compositions after the motives of nature, folk paintings, and folk masters art. Children of a younger and older pre-school age are more confident of their actions, thus their activity process unfolds stage by stage: from the birth of the design and over to the search for the means for the materialization of it, then to the making of the creative product itself, and, finally, to determining its place in the environment with an awareness of its duty. Acquaintance with folk arts and folk masters’ creations (toys, panel pictures, sculptures, compositions) plays the important role in the development of the children’s decorative activity. The original album “Learning from masters of the applied arts” provides a means for acquainting the elder preschool children with the Ukrainian decorative art, including modern, gives an opportunity to come to know various techniques and to join the creation of one’s own composition after the artists’ works.
