Abstract
Every year the quality of tests and multiple-choice questions (items) become the center of attention of not only scientists, but of most citizens of Ukraine during the main session of external independent testing. Analytical report of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment about the test results contains detailed information on procedures for developing and administering standardized tests, the quality of which is provided with significant financial and human resources. Test materials are widely represented in the new textbooks (2015) on algebra and geometry for students of 7th grade of secondary schools. Only on the pages of four of the fifteen reviewed textbooks tasks in test form were not found. All the books passed appropriate stages of review, the complicated selection process, have scientific value and official permits for educational use. Nevertheless, analysis of the quality of test materials contained in the textbooks shows the existence of a reserve for improving these materials. This article provides a definition of «author's test» and examines the cause of the existence of a misconception that to form the test it is enough to formulate tasks in the test form - with a choice of one correct answer. According to the results of the studies made by the author of the article it was revealed that the majority of respondents mathematics teachers identify quality of the item task with the presence of the correct answer among distractors. Given the established role of the textbook as the basis of a single set of various teaching aids, teachers and students have high level of trust in the quality of its content. This highlights the importance of the quality of test materials placed in textbooks, not only as an instrument or tool elements of educational assessment. Tests and items also serve as standard mission for teachers in the development of their own tests and copyright materials. It is noted that the creation of quality items requires the author's creativity and artistic skills. But ignoring rules of creation of items and violations of technology of items leads to the emergence of, at least, test materials of poor quality. There are given examples of items from the pages of textbooks briefly stated conclusions about the quality of items and suggestions for their improvement. There are considerations of various examples of expert reports on the quality of items. Formulating the conclusions, the author of, among other things underlines the unique capabilities of textbooks for establishing the foundations of testing knowledge and culture using tests and items in the educational process.
