Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of socio-cultural competence formation to primary school pupils in the process of teaching foreign languages, since the modern educational paradigm considers education of a multicultural person, capable of participating in a dialogue of cultures, as one of the main objectives in teaching foreign languages. The term “socio-cultural competence is specified and its main components are characterized. It has been revealed that the socio-cultural component is an incentive for increasing the efficiency of teaching pupils at all stages of secondary school, in particular in the primary one. It is proved that the principle of dialogue of cultures is the fundamental principle of the formation of socio-cultural competence, which determines the process of teaching language and culture through the knowledge of cultural values of other peoples. The conditions according to which the formation of socio-cultural competence for primary school pupils will be effective and successful, are formulated. The basic approaches to realization of socio-cultural aspect in the content of foreign language education in primary school are analysed. It is determined that from the standpoint of contemporary methods in teaching foreign languages the modern methodical approaches to the formation of socio-cultural competence for primary school pupils and stage of work are valuable. The peculiarities of formation and development of socio-cultural competence in foreign language lessons at primary school are formulated. To achieve this goal, the author of the article recommends to use modern teaching technologies. It has been proved that socio-cultural content filling is obligatory for educational materials, which are used in foreign languages teaching process. It is revealed that text information is the main source of socio-cultural knowledge for primary school pupils, while authentic texts and other educational materials of linguistic and ethnographic content provide pupils with the opportunity to get acquainted with various socio-cultural aspects of the country’s life, whose language is being studied. A gradual acquaintance with the history and contemporary life of the country, whose language is being studied, its traditions and culture, the use of game techniques at the lessons of foreign language, in particular role-playing games, the method of projects, materials from the Internet: children’s folklore, song material, etc., are provided, examples are given. The forms of extra-curricular work for the formation of socio-cultural competence to primary school pupils, which will promote the constant interest of schoolchildren in teaching foreign languages are considered.
