Abstract
An important aspect of competence-oriented content of teaching a foreign language is shaping students' ability to learn. It includes the following dimensions: knowledge of the ways of organizing their activity, ability to apply them to practice, acquisition of cognitive foreign-language experience, as well as developing value attitude to the process of study. Competence-oriented teaching of foreign languages involves students’ conscious acquisition of certain knowledge, skills and abilities to use them in communication activities. Teachers should help students gain experience in different areas, taking into account the age-specific features of pupils at different stages of education: in primary, secondary and high schools. They should ensure that students acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities that allow them to acquire a level of foreign language experience, defined by CERF and represented by corresponding descriptors A1, A2, B1, B2.
