Abstract
Having analysed structurally different textbooks on history of education published in the independent Ukraine (viz. history of pedagogy and education in Ukraine, history of foreign pedagogy and education, history of the Ukrainian and foreign pedagogy and education; general pedagogy and history of education) which played a leading role in the process of training of teachers and lectures of higher educational establishments, the author of the article reveals and characterises the following approaches according to which the history of the Ukrainian and foreign universities is presented: the history is considered within the chronological boundaries of a certain historical period through the prism of general development of education; a great deal of attention is paid to the history of origin and formation of the first universities in Europe, in particular in Ukraine, other historical periods are partially described, the university education of other continents of the world is less presented; the contents of the majority of them are shown in the traditional form – on the basis of chronological and thematic approach and modern theoretical and methodological principles (civilizational, anthropological, paradigmatic, culturological, and axiological approaches). The author of the article argues for such steps as general renewal of the contents of current textbooks on history of pedagogy or education, creation of textbooks on history of university education taking into account the acquired new scientific knowledge about the mentioned phenomenon in the course of the Ukrainian and foreign researches on history of pedagogy, history of national and foreign education, culture, and philosophy done in the early 21st century; works prepared at the Ukrainian and foreign universities concerning their history, etc. The following ways of realisation of these tasks are suggested: actualization of historical and educational component in the structure of pedagogical education of Ukraine as an effective means for the formation of pedagogical culture, development of professional world view and pedagogical thinking of future teachers and lectures; cooperation between scientific institutions and higher educational establishments while conducting researches; organisation of discussions in order to exchange ideas concerning preparing textbooks on history of pedagogy; activization of international cooperation of the Ukrainian historians of pedagogy.
