Abstract
The author reviews the modernization processes at all stages of education of hearing-impaired children within the scope of reforming the educational system as a whole. The article enumerates several reasons for lack of efficiency in recent modernization processes regarding the education of hearing-impaired children. It points out basic principles of developing the contents and shows the highlights of their implementation from the standpoint of personality and competence orientation of the learning process. The article represents central scientific and methodological approaches to the modernization of the contents of education for deaf and hearing-impaired children, e.g.: stage-oriented development which is not centered exclusively on the child’s age and grade; well-balanced proportion of verbal and sign language; learning at an individual pace; implementation of development programs and lesson plans through an extended variety of methods; multidirectional resource teaching. The author presents the innovations that have been scientifically validated over the past few years and implemented in preschool, ground and middle school lesson plans for hearing-impaired children, e.g.: no more fixed learning time distribution; practice-oriented choice of teaching materials; forming the elements of communicative competence, as opposed to traditional listening comprehension etc.
