Abstract

The article draws attention to the research of scholars of the history of physical education of Ukrainian people. The authors emphasize that the time of the Cossacks in Ukraine operated an effective system of public physical education, the basis of which constituted eternal Ukrainian customs and traditions of the body, moral and spiritual education. While studying at the Sich school the elements of physical hardening, military training and educational preparation of future Cossacks were organically combined. The authors considered the origin of a relatively young sport Horting, which has long and glorious historical and cultural roots of Ukrainian people. The authors considered Horting as a unique system in Ukraine through its social value and potential of its adherents. The undisputed fact is that in a short time of existence Horting covered sports, recreational and educational activities of many locations of Ukraine, Horting sports clubs operating in all regions of Ukraine (it involved 50 thousand people). Now the main objective of Horting is promotion and enhancement of the role of physical culture and sports, patriotic education, involvement of children and young people to a healthy lifestyle, distraction of bad habits, education of the individual in the spirit of integrity and patriotism.
