Abstract
A place of the «Speech development» program in the national curriculum for primary school children with developmental delay is examined. The essence of correctional and developmental work and ways to implement it in the direction of speech activity development as an integrated system are discussed. It is determined that the main purpose of speech development of this category of children is to overcome speech disorders and to form, on this base, a major communicative competence through development of basic specific competences: language, speech, reading, social and cultural ones. The principles of content structuring and modules aimed at formation and development of speech communication are substantiated. The content of correctional and developmental work on speech development of primary school children with developmental delay is theoretically grounded and revealed on the basis of the following principles: differentiation, psycholinguistic «language-speech-communication» link, synergy (integrity, combination) of different speech activities. The basic thematic modules of speech development (listening, speaking, reading and writing) for primary school children with mental retardation are outlined.
