Abstract
In the scientific paper retrospective review of university autonomy in Ukraine and abroad is performed. The idea of the university as a phenomenon and its development based on the principle of autonomy is substantiated. National discourse and practice of university autonomy was defined. It was proved that autonomy and academic freedom of the University as eternal values are updated in a contemporary context.
