Abstract

In the article, a special attention is focused on the need to train a headmaster as a manager and a leader for the purpose of the effective use of the classical functions of management and the acquisition of the new upgraded functions and roles according to the demands of civil society by him/her at the new level; the author's vision of the modern role of a headmaster was represented; the author's characteristic of management styles by C. Levin was provided; a model-image, the so-called "portrait" of a modern Democrat leader defined by the foreign scholars, characteristics of the management style, professional behavior types, types and roles of leadership, content of the headmaster’s management activities was covered. It was underscored that the problem of professional training of a headmaster as an innovative manager and a leader requires managers’ training, revision of the available educational and vocational training programs and the higher education standard, development of a headmaster’s professional activity standards.
