Abstract
In the article the features of formation of ecological competence of students means school geography courses. Dissemination of environmental problems caused the need to improve the status of environmental education. According to the Concept of environmental education Ukraine, the main goal of environmental education is to form environmental culture both individuals and society as a whole. Thus, environmental education aims to provide a new generation of scientific knowledge about the relationship of nature and society, to help understand the diversity of value to society and every individual in particular, the need to develop a relationship with nature and take an active part in improving the environment. The article focuses on discovering potential ecological content revised curriculum for geography, aimed at development of students' environmental competence through geographical education. Learning geography through the environment is leading by implementing environmental awareness of the population. Since geography is not the only source of new information about the Earth, but also the basis for the formation of the humanist worldview, education zealous owners, love for their land, acquisition of skills to adapt to the environment, appropriate behavior in it, as well as education of ecological culture, love for his people, area of residence, patriotism, respect for nature, and should form the environmental knowledge relevant to the content of school geographic. Because of the inaccuracies and disunity these people do not have the ability to formulate and develop a system of environmental expertise that is needed in order to reasonably and uniformly treat nature, without causing significant permanent damage. Therefore, before school geography task is to ensure the systematic presentation of environmental information and this requires a whole range of teaching methods. Qualitative improvement of the actual practice of development of students responsible attitude to nature requires broad involvement of modern science of nature and man; creation and implementation of social consciousness, teaching the theory and practice of new school ecologic centric paradigm geographic education
