Abstract
The essence of the concept of interdisciplinary connections, their functions in the educational process of the modern elementary school is substantiated; The conceptual bases of development and application of interdisciplinary connections in literary reading lessons are described, terminological field of research (system approach, system, competence approach, competence) is outlined. The links of literary reading with other subjects of elementary education (Ukrainian language, art, "I am in the world", natural sciences) are determined. Three types of interdisciplinary tasks, which correspond to the didactic structure of competencies are grounded: knowledge, activity, according to value orientations.
