Abstract
The article reveals the role and place of elective courses in the system of profession-oriented foreign language teaching for senior schoolchildren. Considerable attention is paid to the teaching and methodological support of foreign language elective courses, the main components of which are the concept, curricula, textbooks, methodological recommendations, etc. The educational and methodical literature, prepared by the research scientists of the Department of Teaching Foreign Languages at the Institute of Pedagogy of NAES of Ukraine on this issue, is analyzed in detail (in particular, “Curriculum of elective foreign language courses for secondary schools pupils of general education institutions”; “Concept of textbooks for elective foreign languages courses for pupils in grades 10–11 of the profession-oriented school”; the educational edition of the experimental materials “The World Without Borders”, which is a collection of module fragments from six textbooks of elective courses in English, German and Spanish languages for pupils in grades 10–11 of the profession-oriented school).
