Abstract
The author investigated and expanded the historical aspect of studies of medical representative in the European Community. It was found that the initiative in the development of medical education in the most countries belong to the medical associations. They are created by the collaboration of leading scientists and practitioners of the community and with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO). The activity of this organization is aimed at the development and quality of medical education. International Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), which includes faculty members, introduces innovations in medical education not only in Europe but also all over the world. It mostly effects on the education of medical personnel, including medical representatives. The article emphasizes the pharmaceutical companies have always been the initiators and sponsors of development of medicine. They significantly influence on the education of medical representatives: promote the development of medical knowledge and formulate the requirements for professional competence. For example, such effect is represented in the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABFP, ABPI), which was founded in London in 1891 as a club of specialists of medicines and drugs. Today its role quite different: it defines the main directions of development of the pharmaceutical industry for the government and people; its structure has a number of departments – commercial, communications, service for the members of the association, partnership, research and innovation in medicine. It is singled out the direction of medical and innovation departments: the direct impact on the studying of medical representatives, formulation of requirements to the level of their skills; optimization of science and education; promote innovation and so on.
