Abstract

This paper examines current approaches to teacher training in the UK, France, Canada and the USA; it is found that diversity is the most distinctive feature of teacher education; features (development of alternative certification programs, interdisciplinary foundation of future specialists training, priority of pedagogical practice, providing professional collaboration, etc.) and principles of effective teacher training (diversification, integration, standardization, multiculturalism, variability, interdisciplinarity)are defined; differences due to historical time, national characteristics and social conditions (for example, France has a centralized system of teacher training, and the UK - partially decentralized, each state or province in the US and Canada has its own system of teacher training) and similarities in their development are singled out, in particular, reform is carried out in the direction of teacher preparation of a new type, namely a creative teacher professional.
