Abstract
In the textbook presents the author's approach with respect to understanding the problems of socialization and individualization of children with intellectual disabilities and the essential characteristics of the process of social development; The results of studies of domestic and foreign authors on the problems of social development and the formation of the personality of children with mental and physical impairments through the formation of their social and adaptive skills, life and health-competence; The conditions that contribute to the socialization of children, as well as individual causes of social exclusion; discloses the connection of the socialization process, educational environment and socio-cultural situation, as well as socializing function of correctional and educational space as a factor of social development and the formation of the individual student with the peculiarities of intellectual development in a special institution; methods are provided for the organization and components of correctional and educational environment, depending on the type of connections and relationships that make up its structure. Products enhances the quality of education, empowerment training and education of children with mental retardation and improves the results of the teaching staff of educational institutions activity. Addressed to researchers, teachers, educators, psychologists, special education institutions, social workers, students defectological faculties of pedagogical universities, graduate students, anyone interested in the problems of socialization of mentally retarded children
