Abstract
The article analyzes the contribution of Admiral Stepan Makarov into the development of psychological and educational science. The author highlights the idea of a scholar concerning the need of teaching “Military Psychology” in higher military educational institutions where the main attention would focus on the issues of psychology of a soldier and a military team. The basic principles of training and education of future naval officer are revealed in the article. The author concludes that the outstanding Russian admiral S. Makarov made a significant contribution to the development of naval warfare, naval tactics, shipbuilding, and improvement in the use of naval weapons during the war. Considerable merit of S. Makarova is substantiation of the need of teaching the course “Military Psychology” in the training of a naval officer. The questions of naval pedagogy, its main principles that the scholar developed basing on the humanistic principles, applying the following principles: personal approach to training and education of personnel; unity of training and education; theory and practice; systematic and consistency; continuity; self-education, etc. remain valuable in the creative legacy of Admiral S. Makarov. High moral and psychological state of personnel, according to S. Makarov, is the main guarantee both at sea and on land. Psychological and pedagogical heritage of S. Makarov remains relevant today, so it can be used in the process of soldiers education.
