Abstract
In article it was noted that overall Greek teacher quality has an important impact on student achievement but that attempts to attribute this overall impact to specific teacher characteristics have only partly been successful. This can be seen as having implications for two types of teacher policies: hiring, recruitment and selection on the one hand, and professional development on the other.
