Abstract
Based on a theoretical analysis of scientific achievements of domestic and foreign scholars, the article deals with the specifics of the concept ‘prosocial behavior’. This notion is determined to be interconnected with concepts such as altruism, human relations, relations of solidarity, mutual complicity, humanistic values, formation and development of empathy, differences of prosocial and antisocial behavior. At the same time, according to foreign researchers, prosocial behavior is the action for the benefit of others, and includes sympathy, cooperation, aid, assistance, cooperation. The author emphasizes several theoretical models of prosocial behavior: a decision-making model to assist in crisis situations of Latane and Darl; a prosocial model of Schwartz and Howard; a prosocial behavior model proposed in 2006 by Z. Linderberg that provides five types of behavior: cooperation, fairness, altruism, reliability and respect for the interests of others. The author reveals the formation and personality development stages in the early school years: adaptation (adaptation to new social conditions), individualization (an expression of individual capabilities and characteristics) and integration (inclusion in the peer group). Analysis of psychological and educational literature allowed the author to outline schematically age, anatomical and physiological and individual psychological characteristics of elementary school students that should be considered by teachers and educators in order to develop prosocial behavior according to the dynamics of social change and pronounced orientation of society towards social prestige and successfulness.
