Abstract

The article considers: how knowledge of standards can help companies to compete at international markets; whether standards' competencies are required by the labour market.The authors demonstrate the ever-growing importance of standards as a new competition tool. It should be noted that education on standardization is also significantly influenced by an organization of a national educational system. Also described how education on standardization issues is organized in national educational institutions. The authors felt that there was a need for horizontal general awareness training among students of non-technical specialization to demonstrate them the multi-disciplinary character of standards in a modern world;the authorsdiscuss also whether educational programmes on standardization are required for other areas (customs and others). UNECE activities on promoting and teaching standards, a new “UNECE model-programme on education on standardization”and a new course “Fundamentals of Standardization”have been presented stepwise.In conclusion, the authors evaluate the obtained results and give their opinions of the analyzed issue.
