Abstract
The authors of this article describe main scientific approaches to the creation of textbooks for school and research requirements defined by Ukrainian scientists in the field of assessment of a quality of school textbooks and study European criteria for evaluation of textbooks’ quality. A process of creating new Ukrainian textbooks is enough complicated and full of contradictions. It is connected with economic, social and political problems of our country but we also need to improve scientific approaches to the creation of modern Ukrainian textbooks and determine unified system of requirements and criteria for quality evaluating. Authors also explore the European experience of evaluating of quality of textbooks on the example of criteria of the BESA (the international competition of Best European Schoolbook Award). Authors point out that European criteria could help to define priorities in teaching-learning process and could be adopted and implemented in Ukrainian practice of creating a new generation of textbooks.
